Dermatologist Recommended Best Lotion. Extra Dry Skin Must Have

Dry, dehydrated skin leads to premature aging so for extra dry skin, you need the best lotion. Extra dry skin is usually is worst in the cold weather conditions.

Other than that, it’s usually caused by a dry skin condition such as dermatitis or eczema, washing too much, using soap and hand sanitizer, not exfoliating, and of course, not moisturizing.

Not just moisturizing now and then when you feel like it too, but within 30 seconds of having a shower, and even up to 5 times a day sometimes if you have a dry skin condition.

If you need the best face lotion or the best body lotion for extra dry skin, these are the top 5 best moisturizers for extra dry skin types.

Well Worth A Try

I have eczema so I’m super fussy when it comes to moisturizers. If it irritates my skin, it’s a no-go but I can see why this is a skincare essential for many celebrities.

Let’s be honest, if it’s good enough for Beyonce, and it’s that cheap, it’s certainly worth a try for extra dry skin.

Hands down the best dry otc lotion for dry skin that’s worth trying.

2. Egyptian Magic

There are so many amazing hand creams to choose from but for extra dry cracked skin on the hands, it has to be O’Keeffe’s hand cream for working hands.

Take Care of Working Hands

When your hands are your tools for your work, it’s important to take care of them.

I recommend keeping one tube of hand cream in your bag and one near your hand wash so you remember to moisturize after washing your hands too.

There’s a small range of O’Keeffe’s for dry lips, dry working hands, dry feet and a body lotion. The hand and foot cream I rate the most.

Healthy Feet Foot Cream

I have to stand by my recommendation for O’Keeffe’s Healthy Foot Cream mentioned in the Diabetic skincare blog post. The 1000s of before and after pictures of healed cracked heels on Amazon speak for themselves.

Plus, it’s a number 1 best-seller on Amazon for Foot Creams in the UK. Available in the US too.

It’s normal to get dry feet now and then, especially when the feet have the thickest skin on the body, but if they’re dry and cracked, they really need a good scrub using a pumice stone before moisturizing too.

Last Notes

Show your skin some love and don’t forget to moisturize within 30 seconds of stepping out the shower, exfoliating your body daily, and your face weekly.

Having eczema and dry, sensitive skin myself, I find an oil-based balm definitely works best for dry areas.

Drinking enough water always helps keep you hydrated inside out too.

  1. Hi Sammi,

I enjoyed reading your post – very informative and easy to follow. In the recent time, due to the excessive washing and usage of hand sanitizers. My hands have become very dry and cracked looking.
Which one would you suggest for that? Also, which one of them is more natural and chemical free?

    1. Hi Habib,

I’m glad you enjooyed it. Definitely the hand cream mentioned in the article I’d recommend. Leave it next to your hand wash to remind you.

If you’re looking for natual and chemical free, the egyptian magic cream would be best with its 6 natural ingredients.

Let me know which you choose.

      Stay well!

  2. Hi Sammi,

Thank you for sharing and keep up the great work.

    1. Hi Tom,

It has been wonderfully in the UK but it does take its toll on your skin in the heat too. Make sure you’re protecting your skin with a UVA sunscreen after moisturizing to prevent premature ageing.

Please do let me know which you choose and if it works for you as everyones skin is different of course.

      You’re very welcome, thank you!

All the best to you too.

      Stay well!

  3. Hello,
I really thank you for sharing these lotions, I experience very dry skin especially during our winter season. I find washing my hands as often as is recommended to protect against the COVID-19 has increased my problem, and my present lotion is not doing the job now.

    1. You’re very welcome Jeff. Extra moisturizing is definitely needed for the winter season. That’s right, washing our hands constantly dries them out too, and using hand sanitizer as mentioned in my Covid Post. I would definitely recommend the hand cream mentioned in the article and keep it beside your hand wash so you remember to moisturize straight after too.

  4. Thank you so much for this highly informative article! I am sitting here with dry, cracked, itchy skin as I read this article (I may be overusing Dove products and not moisturizing enough), and am definitely looking for a fix! I have various lotions and creams, but they only seem to provide minimal results. You did an excellent job of explaining the different types of moisturizers, as well as their pros and cons. I have bookmarked your site! God bless you!

    1. Bless you, thank you. Oh I hope it’s not Dove soap you use, soaps strip the skin’s natural oils. Over-exfoliating does not. Use 1 cream at a time on different areas and test patch any new products on a small area of your skin to see which works for you. If a product doesn’t work by a month, it’s best to opt for a new one. Hope your skin gets better.

  5. I have had extremely dry skin for years now. I struggle so much to find products that actually work. Most of the time I feel like they just prevent things from getting worse rather than actually deeply moisturizing skin. I can’t wait to give these recommendations a go! I look forward to reading more of your posts… I could use as much help as I can get.

    1. You’re very welcome, hope it helps. Exfoliating and using an oil-based balm is definitely best for deeply moisturizing the skin. I’m sure these products will help. Take good care!
